Mia Thermopolis, an awkward San Francisco teenager who discovers from her visiting grandmother, Queen Clarisse Renaldi, that she is the heir to the throne of Genovia. Her grandmother gives her princess lessons to prepare her for the role, while Mia navigates high school and a burgeoning romance. The story centers on her humorous and comical journey as she grapples with her two vastly different lives and decides whether to accept her destiny as a princess or remain a normal teen.
