The Demon Awakens introduces the dual-personality samurai, Mibu Kyoshiro, and the fearsome "Demon Eyes" Kyo, who share one body. After a meteor strike during their duel at the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600, four years pass with Kyoshiro living as a wandering medicine seller, his past erased. He is eventually discovered by the bounty hunter Yuya Shiina, who is searching for her brother's killer and mistakes Kyoshiro for the legendary Kyo. When Kyoshiro is pushed into a fight, the dormant and ruthless spirit of Kyo awakens, and the two are drawn into a conflict involving the Tokugawa shogunate and the superhuman Mibu tribe.
